Well

I've been a little more proactive about putting posts on craigslist advertising photography services. I wrote on the ad that I charge $50 an hour.

Some guy responds on craigslist that anyone charging . . . oh, I'll go find the thing.

Here it is.

charging $50.00 for photographer service is a SCAM

Between buying the film and processing, that ALONE is $50.00 plus, that's not counting the time and talent and transportation of the photographer and whether they will use any further equipment. SMELLS LIKE A SCAM TO ME.

No one gives their work away for free - and if you decide to use someone's photo without their express permission, you are setting yourself up to be SUED for usage and ownership/copyright fees. Don't get caught out there, "models" and other "creative types".

I think that people who post here $50.00 for photography work are only lessening and damning the work that legitimate photographers do. And yes, there are decent photographers to be found on craigslist that don't do lousy photo work.

Beware, or you get what you pay for.

Okay, so I get it. I'm well aware that there's a major overhaul going on right now because of the switch over to digital. Photographers used to have to charge so much because their film expenses were so high. Someone like me has made a huge investment into digital equipment. It depreciates just sitting there. And it doesn't cost a whole lot to operate.

Digital photography is improving images just because you don't have to pay for film. You take a thousand shots and keep one. My father used to say that you're lucky if you get one good shot a roll. Now digital's looking as good as film too so there is definitely a revolution underway.
